An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a federally mandated committee composed of scientists, clinicians, non-scientists and non-affiliated community representatives charged with overseeing all research projects involving human volunteers to protect the rights and
welfare of the volunteers, certifying that the research is conducted according to the highest scientific and ethical standards.
The Fielding IRB Mission
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee charged with the oversight of all social, behavioral and educational research with human subjects (research participants) conducted at Fielding Graduate University and to ensure that research participants' rights are adequately protected. To accomplish this, the IRB reviews, approves the initiation of, and performs continuing review of human subjects' research as directed by the institution's Federal Wide Assurance, or FWA - an agreement between Fielding and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Human Research Protection (OHRP).
The Fielding IRB must review all research before it is conducted. The IRB makes all determinations of whether a proposed research project needs IRB review, qualifies for exemption, or is eligible for a waiver.
Fielding Graduate University assures that human subjects research conducted by the Fielding research community will adhere to the Fielding Research Ethics Policy and to the statement of ethical principles described in The Belmont Report.
Fielding Federal Wide Assurance: #FWA00013075.
